Yard work begins

In a phone conversation today, my Mom brought up that I haven't posted since April 8 and she wants to see house photos. What can I say? Time flies when you're having fun--and working hard.

Look what Mike is up to--mowing our lawn for the first time! This photo was taken on April 10. We had an amazingly early spring in Dakota this year. A credible source told me winter 09-10 was 57 days shorter than the year before. Praise the Lord!

Our house was a foreclosure, and we aren't sure the lawn got mowed at all last year. Can you see the difference between the long stuff on the left and the trimmed right side?

Because the yard was neglected, we (and by we I mean Mike) couldn't just mow it. He had to rake everything, hauling loads of debris to the landfill. We took FIVE loads of trimmed branches, leaves, grass, pine cones, etc. before finishing.

I don't want you to think I made Mike do all the yard work by himself. I was the chief branch trimmer and flower-bed preparer. I'm anxious to plant something in the little planter, but with lows in the 30's at night this country girl knows better.
